Mayor Recommends Council $10,000 Pay Increase; Ditch "Legislative fees"

In the 2017 budget released this week, Mayor Hayward recommended Council pay increases of $10,000 each!  $10,000 is a nice round number. Just ask Amy Workman or Rebecca Ferguson.

"Additionally, an appropriation of $10,000 for each City Council member totaling $70,000 was requested by City Council for the costs associated with various legislative functions. While this funding is included in the Mayor’s proposed budget as requested by the City council in operating expense, it is recommended that the $10,000 per Council Member be added to their salaries."

No Council action required!  Take that item off the agenda!

Yes Pensacola, less for the Citizens, more for the Council.  Courtesy of Mayor Hayward!

Awesome! Just pay them off in the open. Now they're all obligated to just rubber stamp whatever Hayward wants. Nothing like "Transparent" corruption! Remember all those speeches about how he works for the taxpayers? Lmbo! He has played Pensacola like a fiddle yet everyone keeps asking for more. Welcome to the Effed Upside of Florida!

Yet another "win-win" paid for by the citizens. Hayward wins by "paying them forward" and council wins by getting paid just to do whatever Hayward wants. It's more like a "win-win-lose". Guess who loses!

Can you spell B-R-I-B-E? Pay these fools an additional $10,000 (with someone else's money) and they will be loyal lap dogs forever!

Another example as to why Escambia County needs to absorb the City.

FBI, add this bribe to the list. Also, 1. he can't give another branch of government a raise. 2. Raises are set by Charter, 3. cannot go in effect until after the election. Read the charter ashton.

Is this in addition to the $23,000 pay increase that Larry Johnson has on the agenda for tonight's meeting?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gulf Breeze City council members are paid $1 a year folks.

$70K is tatter water when it's someone else's dough. It's like he's trying to get convicted of every crime possible but he can't get convicted no matter how hard he tries.

City of Pensacola Meetings are once a month.

That's $2k per meeting each Council member one gets paid for 8 hours of work.

Pensacola's per capita income is $28,844.

WTF.

During the July 14 meeting, the Council voted to increase their salaries by 50%. Councilwoman Jewel Cannada-Wynn said the following: 1) "I would like a raise."; 2) "I do believe we should have an increase."; 3) "I support the Council getting a raise."; and 4) "I do support a raise." Councilman Larry Johnson said of the pay raise, and he has proposed a much larger one, "It's not about me." He said that working a 40-hour work week, Council members didn't earn the minimum wage at their current rate of pay. In his Council Memorandum, Johnson wrote that Council members will soon work "full-time." It is not expressly written as such in the ordinance but there is now a solid paperwork and video chain to prove that in exchange for the 50% salary increase Council members will be working "full-time." I bet that Councilman Andy Terhaar is going to be very surprised when he get back into town to learn that he is going to have to quit his current job to begin to work "full-time as a Council member. Johnson said that the Council members are now attending so many more meetings. Someone should simply look at the city's website and report the total number of meetings of the City Council each year from let's say 2009 to the present. Johnson took office in January 2009.

With Mayor "Red Bull" running things, there is NO LIMIT to shady dealings and outright disregard for Federal and State laws or local ordinances. This clown won't stop until the city is bankrupt. But at least all of the local law firms will be stocked with cash!

Ashton Hayward is a disgrace to any elected office. I have never seen such a disdain for others or the public's trust. He demeans and belittles people who he thinks are beneath him. Ashton is almost 50, get over yourself! The man sold ads for financial times and packages for at&t, he is no businessman. Doesn't know what he is doing at all! Listen to his radio interviews, he can't go off scripts, he stumbles and repeats words. I can't wait to see the black SUV's swarm City Hall and remove files from the 7th floor. You should hear how the City Administrator stores the files...He Fired his temporary employee and wouldn't hire good people after being there for over a year. Sick of this administration and the way they do business!

Work full time doing what exactly? All they do is what Hayward wants them to do. They sit around and talk about all of the power that they DON'T have. Then whenever Ashton wants them to vote a certain way, Wu and Wynn give speeches as to why they are not on board before inevitably voting how he told them to.
