Chief's Fired

The investigative report concerning the Fire Department was delivered to Mayor Hayward on April 29. Has rendered a decision regarding the Fire Chiefs.

Mayor Hayward announced on May 10, that he has dismissed Matt Schmitt and Joe Glover from their employment with the City due to a loss of confidence in their ability to lead the Pensacola Fire Department.
The decision followed an investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding fire department management practices.  After a review of the investigation, Mayor Hayward determined that the findings of fact that emerged were sufficient to warrant the dismissal of both individuals.
Mayor Hayward has appointed David Allen as Fire Chief.  David has been with the Pensacola Fire Department for 28 years and currently serves as Acting Interim Fire Chief.  His appointment will be presented to the City Council for consent at the June council meeting.

In making the announcement Mayor Hayward said, "These are never easy decisions to make but I have the responsibility to ensure that the men and women of the Fire Department have leaders that can bring out the best in them and in the department.  I believe that my decision is a step in that direction.”

Based in Haywards statement, he should resign right after firing Sisson and Olsen.

This is just unbelievable...the weasel reason for firing someone when you have no real reason to fire someone. Everyone who reads this blog...please come to the City Council meeting Thursday! We have to make a show of strength and support for these men!! They have been wronged horribly!!! I do not know the answer, but I do know that sometimes you just have to show up!!!!

What a travesty. Hayward has destroyed the lives of so many city employees. How can anyone respect him -- or continue to work for him & still look themselves in the mirror?

So Allen is the New Chief and NOT a Interim Chief like Schmitt? Schmitt was Interim Chief for 5 Freakin Years and now you just make David Allen a Fire Chief? Hayward at his Best!!!

Now they have been fired, they can file suit against the city for retaliation. Good job mayor!
The city is going to lose this lawsuit.

So they get fired Due to improper hiring practices when sisson, hr. should have been handling this. The city needs to fire sisson and olson. The chiefs were trying to do their jobs as best they could under poor hr. Guidelines.
Yep! City of pcola will lose this lawsuit too.

Watching Haywards interview on Channel 3 News was embarrassing, painful, sad, disturbing, and downright pathetic. He was asked point blank why the chiefs were fired. Not once did he answer the question. Is he autistic? I look forward to the lawsuit that is brought against the City, Hayward, Olson, and Sisson.
You're all disgusting and between the Fish House lawsuit, The Chiefs lawsuit, and the Fire house mold lawsuit, I hope it leaves The City of Pensacola bankrupt. Dick Barker, good luck finding money to pay. Maybe you'll find Another 2$million check that doesn't belong to the City, you'll need it.

Ashton Hayward, you're a disgusting,POS and you lost the respect of the Citizens, the employees (which never respected you in the first place), and your peers.

Wow! Look how the Pensacola going out of business soon journal is spinning articles to cover the failing losers in city hall! It is awesome ! Fred Levin has so much involvement that is not documented atleast to date. Ashton was going homeless before becoming mayor and poof he is mayor and his house is refinanced! Does the bank in the Fred Levin and crony owned building on Baylen Street have any info that would be interesting brought into the public light?

The report was definitely as one-sided as you would expect coming from the mayor's criminal defense attorney. But I must say I was underwhelmed by what these men were accused of doing. Most of it was over-dramatized by Van Sickle who comes across as a creep. Good attorneys will certainly be able to dismantle this biased, partial, subjective" report. But it's pretty shameful that these two men who were obvious targets of retaliation have been treated this way.

I agree with Anonymous @1:25 AM. The entire purpose of the VanSickle "report" is to intimidate the fire chiefs. This is typical lawyer tactics. Hayward wants the chiefs shaking in their Florsheims so they won't DARE file a law suit against the city. Any jury will be able to decipher the city's actions without a problem.

"Oh, wow, the employee manual was changed right after one of the chiefs requested a hearing as was his right BEFORE the manual was changed!"

"Uh, you fired them because there were checks in the safe for baby seats that had not been cashed?"

"You didn't like their 'management style?'"

Let’s be real. Did anyone REALLY think that the “independent” investigation by the Mayor’s “criminal attorney” – that HE also hired as “outside counsel” for the City – would produce a report that found the Chiefs as innocent of wrongdoings and the City guilty of wrongdoing and retaliation?

Who do you think will be hired as the City’s attorney when the Chiefs file the epic lawsuit over this foolishness of the Mayor?

The “independent” Beggs & Lane wouldn’t dare prepare a report that would certainly get the city sued and them hired to defend such suit would they?

Corruption at its finest is on full display in Pensacola and the Mayor is leading this “circus.” The fleecing of Pensacola's taxpayers right in front of your eyes and NO recall from Pensacola citizens - SMDH

RECALL the Mayor!!!!!!

Can someone explain to me why the mayor gets to ride in planes that are connected to Fred Levin and Jerry Pate, but "Glover erred in accepting a complimentary rental car upgrade". What did I miss??

Please take the time to read the "Exhibits" folks. Only then will you be able to appreciate what an elaborate spin job Van Weasel has done. The "Exhibits" for the most part do not support the report's findings. The hired assassin did exactly what his bosses Hayward and Kerrigan paid him to do. Van Suckle is officially on the hook and ethics violations may be tough to shake.

What you missed was the EEOC Complaint filed by Glover!

It's hilarious how VanSickle points to the fact that Edward Deas is an African-American. How is that relevant in any way, shape, or form. What it amounts to is an unsuccessful attempt to prove there is no racial bias by the city. See look everybody we took up for a black person we can't be racists. Pointing this out was no doubt Bob Kerrigan's idea.

Notice how Olson, Sisson, and even peon Deas are completely cleared of any wrongdoing even though they have violated ethics, federal law, state statutes, rules, andregulations
