McLaughlin out for Asst. City Administrator...But Gets Consolation No-Bid Contract

Former County Administrator Bob McLaughlin yesterday was awarded a no-bid contract to assist with the evaluation of the City's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The contract is available on FORTIS.

The Contract will run for 240 days (June 30, 2016) and is renewable for two (2) one (1) year periods.

Bob will be paid $100 per hour with the estimate of 75 hours being required.

Boy, I hope my sharing the insider deal nature of the resume passing didn't hurt Bob's chance at the job he sent the resume for:

"Operations and Facilities Planning for the City of Pensacola, Florida"

FYI...No where in Bob's resume submitted is there any reference to knowledge or experience with ADA compliance.

Good Night in the Morning!

Unbelievable...! This is another “make work" contract that has no real purpose and the person selected for the contract has no real experience in the field. Why don't we just forget about the charade and give Bob a check for $7,500? The city doesn't have any more shelf space for all of the "studies" that have been done over the past twenty years. This will just be another dust gatherer!

The ADA is not an easy nut to crack, particularly since the Florida legislators (bless their little pea-picking hearts!) have in all of their wisdom decided to write their own version of the ADA. It will take Bob McLaughlin much more than 75 hours just to try to read and comprehend the Florida ADA.

It is truly time to clean out the rat’s nest at City Hall.

Good grief City Council, grow some balls and backbone and put a stop to this madness. Are you telling us that no one in the Planning Services Department or the Engineering Department is capable of performing this work for the existing over-inflated salaries that we already pay?

They will put him on contract and then move him into the position when they re-align Olson to the basement.

$100 an hour!!!!!!!?????

Who the hell is in charge of this salary shit?!?!?

You have City employees working 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet while Yahoo's like this get paid ridiculous amounts of money.

PERHAPS CITY WORKERS SHOULD GO ON STRIKE. WE ALL CALL IN SICK ONE DAY. Lets see if Hayward and Olson can do anything on their own!

If city goes on strike the Mayor will simply contract another staff at twice the cost.

This will go on for much more than just 75 hours (it always does!). The contract is for 240 days but can be extended for two additional years. This will give Bob almost three years of work at $100 per hour.

Basically, this is the perfect job. Much better than an administrative position where you actually have to do something. No one will ever read an "ADA study" so Bob doesn't need to be accountable for anything. Bob can sit back and make his own hours. I am sure that three years from now there will be an awards ceremony for Bob complete with cameras (there are always cameras around our Mayor). Ashton will present the newly printed ADA award and say "And Bob, you've done a heck of a job!"
