PNJ Editor Describes Fountain Interaction with PNJ Reporter

In an interview this morning with AM 1620, the PNJ Executive Editor details how her reporter was threatened by Tamara Fountain that if he didn't give some "kind press" an old police report about him would be released.

How does Tamara Fountain get an old police report?  I have made a public records request of the last five city employees to access the reporters police reports in the City system.

City employees know this all too well. Before Hayward, the city work environment was supportive. Now it's fearful. Employees no longer trust & have each other's back. They don't know who they can trust so they hunker down & try to stay off Hayward's radar. Hayward can't manage his way out of a paper bag. When an employee does something Hayward doesn't like, he has someone else fire that person without warning. The turnover of city staff has damaged the delivery of service to the citizens of Pensacola, but more tragically, Hayward has damaged families & lives. Hayward's personnel decisions are callous, hateful & hurtful. He is an abhorrent man.

Sunday's edition of the Pensacola News Journal, August 23, 2015, first section ---

Quinty repays the News Journal for "going to battle" with the Hayward Administration by taking out another full page "fluff" ad. The quid pro quo between Studer and the News Journal should be obvious to anyone.

Not to take anything away from the wrongdoings of the Hayward Administration, but Quint Studer has controlled the News Journal for over a decade and is responsible for the yellow journalism that prevails with that "newspaper."

I have spoken with all of the people involved in this story since the show on Friday. As I explained a couple of times this morning on the air, I believe this was all a misunderstanding. I can understand why each of the persons did, said, or reacted as they did. For the record, I immediately sent a text to Tamara, Wil, and the Mayor asking for comment. Tamara and Wil (and Lisa) have both talked with me at length since then, and this is my best judgment about the whole issue.
