City Pays Receptionist To Read the PNJ and Write Book Reports on the Articles

Nicole Lowery, Receptionist, Office of the Mayor, is the person responsible for reading the PNJ everyday and writing a book report for the 7th floor staff.  She copies everyone...but the Mayor.  Poor girl has to apologize for falling behind.  Bet she really has been "steppin and fetchin" in the last few weeks!

OUR tax dollars at work!

Here’s what is in the news today for the City of Pensacola,

Our City Moves Forward, Opinion article

The article begins with the Mayor’s meeting with the Singapore Ambassador to the U.S. and then moves on to speak about the loss of the $20 million Center for Entrepreneurship and how the Studer’s, UWF, and the C enter are all moving forward. At the end of the article it does state that the city needs to become more professional and consistent with a clear process for development at the park. In the closing the article states “We have no doubt Mayor Hayward is working hard to do what is best for the city that he loves”, but his staffing decisions matter. They seem to be surrounded by questions that carry a perception of politics or favoritism. They believe he is obligated to justify the propriety of his choices to the people who finance him.

And that all of the news for the City of Pensacola on Wednesday, August 05, 2015.

I apologize for falling a little behind last week with my daily news reports.

Here is what is in the news today for the City of Pensacola,

Ambassador visits from Singapore

Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States was in Pensacola on Monday August 3, 2015 discussing the joint venture that will take root here in Pensacola. The construction of this $ 37 million VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering Facility is due to begin Janurary, 2016 and will be operational in early 2017.

Letter to the editor discusses Lumon May traffic stop. Letter titled Missing Moral Compass. In the writer’s opinion Lt. Rodney Eagerton should be removed from the Pensacola Police force because his fear of political influence bewiddlers him from doing his job. He believes that officer Caitlyn Grantham should take his place.

It literally takes less than 10 minutes to read the local news section, opinion page, and front page section of the PNJ. We have to pay $$$ someone to do what all city leaders should already be doing on their own? They need it dumbed down even further in a book report briefing? Maren, please put a 'fund me' button on your page. I'll gladly donate towards the public records expenses because what you are sharing with the public (the real madness at City Hall) is priceless.

The real question is,

"If they don't have time to read the newspaper, where will they find the time to read the book report....????"

Herrrrreeeee's your sign...!!!

Are we back in High School where the studious girl does all the work for the cute popular guy? Seems the only reason we have a Mayor is for ceremonial photo shoots like the one last Thursday. If that's the case than we only need to pay him minimum wage for the hours he actually works and let the Council and Administrator (not the current one) run the city like before when it wasn't perfect but at least it worked a lot better.

I'm curious how much more the city pays in Communications (press related stuff we pay the Mayor's friends Bogan, Cosson, etc.) costs and lawyers fess each month than we did prior to the strong Mayor government. It's perception (communications) and paying for the lack of reality associated with that perception (lawyers).

This is outrageous.

There is no position listed in the FY 2016 Annual Budget document for a "Receptionist," to include in the Office of the Mayor. Is she a city employee or another person on a personal services contract not counted against the total number of city employees? How many people "really" work in the Office of the Mayor?

Anonymous said...

Wow. How much is this girl getting paid TO DO NOTHING????????!!!!????

We have city workers busting their asses doing the jobs of 2 or 3 people because their departments have NO MONEY to pay and hire regular employees because the mayor uses up all the city money to pay for 3 assistants, 2 receptionists, Facebook photographer, speech writer, soon to be 3 administrators, and a partridge in a pear tree.

7th floor City Hall is a damn joke!

Hayward needs so many people just to prop him up. Someone really needs to do a cost comparison pre- and post- Hayward. Al Coby didn't need any assistants. He did a great job on his own. Even when Tom Bonfield was the city manager, he only had 2 assistant city managers. No communications people, COO, etc. Hayward is a light weight & can't manage his way out of a paper bag.

Seriously? Really? So very sad and embarrassing for the city. So sorry Nicole. Do you have to make them lunch and tell them when it's nap time too?

OK 1st of all I am Nicole LOWERY,and I never have been paid for doing nothing in my life. I am sure you all have a task they do daily that most of us would find absolutely ridiculous. Before speaking of someone you should do your homework and know the facts of what your are claiming. None of you have a clue as to what work is done on the 7th floor, other than what you read in a sore losers blog, listen to on a whiny needs to feel important old man's radio show or maybe read in an article fueled by a person who feels entitled and didn't get their way. Why don't each of you stop your bitching and grudge holding and look at the many positive things Mayor Hayward has done and continues to do for the City of Pensacola. Everyone on the 7th floor works hard at their jobs that pay to support their families. You all realize you are attacking people who are working instead of laying around bitching about a jobs they wouldn't Last a day in, all while praying the mail runs on time with their monthly check. Please again before Spewing your envious hatred towards someone doing the best for a City full of people not yet accustomed to the fact that positive change takes time and when done right will have ups and downs. No one here is a miracle worker and could do what Pensacola needs overnight. I understand most of the citizens in this city are the impatient type, always wanting better, but not willing to help, only complain. It's the same no matter where you go. Oh and just a little FYI to you haters, for every complaint that comes across the desk of that poor little girl who gets paid to do nothing, there are 4-5 positive ones praising our GREAT Mayor, THANKING HIM FOR WHAT HE'S DONE AND CONTINUES TO DO FOR THIS CITY. MAREN, GET A NEW HOBBY HOBBY, THIS ONE IS OLD AND TIRED. GO MAKE A NEW ENEMY AND BLOG ABOUT THAT. Change is almost always good!

If the comment posted by Nicole Lowery really is Nicole Lowrey, there are three glaring issues;
1. There are so many grammatical and spelling errors, she needs to be sent back to 4th grade English class.
2. The cuss words and other derogatory language warrant termination.
3. There is a directive from the 7th floor that employees are not permitted to comment on this blog.

My sources tell me even with the stupidity permeating from the 7th floor, Ms. Lowrey would not be dumb enough to post a comment like the previous one.

You folks are being ridiculous. Writing a digest (book report? Come on...) of applicable local news stories to save city administrators time seems like a perfectly reasonable use of the inevitable down time a receptionist experiences. I can imagine the uproar if someone said the mayor or Olson spends an hour every day reading local news. Let's focus on the real issues with this administration, of which there are many.

How about the fact that one of the people copied on this email was Zachary Michael, the "campaign manager" for Donna Clark's run against Hayward in the last election?

Anonymous said...

Seriously? City Hall has issued a directive taking away their employees' first amendment rights telling them what blogs are forbidden during their off duty hours, and using their home computers? Has Olson lost his mind?

Anonymous said...

Amen! The grammatical and spelling errors are yet another embarrassment of the elementary level employees working for the mayor!

Anonymous said...

There is no directive telling city employees what sites they can and can't go on when THEY ARE OFF THE CLOCK IN THE PRIVACY OF THEIR OWN HOMES.

If there was, Maren would have already been emailed a copy. Trust that.

It's too bad you don't allow different viewpoints in your comments section. I do hope you'll follow up on the Zachary Michael situation. It seems pretty clear that he was a plant in the Donna Clark campaign at the same time that Dick's Blog was running. Unethical at best.
