COO Fountain Threatens to Have Airport Director Fired

    Thoughts on the below email.
  • Work around you?  He worked for Barker.  That was his boss?  He asked to speak with his boss.  But it appears his boss works for Fountain.
  • The Airport is an ENTERPRISE.  Why should it report to City staff?
  • Let me hold being fired over your head on a Friday evening at 6:44PM.  Basically, I own your future and I'll decide if you have a future.
  • Threats and intimidation.  HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT?
Anyone want to work for this woman?

Dan,

Mr. Barker forwarded me your email to him concerning Emagination. Per the Mayor, I have final authority for all marketing issues. If you have an issue relating to the marketing agency in place, you should raise those issues with me. It is inappropriate for you to work around me and raise such issues with Mr. Barker.

The airport's bond rating continues to slip. The airport's languishing real estate assets desperately need to be activated. There is a strong need for an effective marketing program for our airport. If your enterprise was operating successfully, Mayor Hayward would not have asked me to involve myself.

We have discussed these issues many times, and I am deeply disappointed in your lack of cooperation with the marketing structure which Mayor Hayward has set forth.

Frankly, at this point, I am considering recommending termination of your employment to Mayor Hayward. While this represents blatant insubordination on your part, I will refrain from copying this to Mayor Hayward and take the weekend to think this over. Should a decision be made to retain your services, we will need to have some serious conversations about our next steps, including the issue of non-performing employees on your team.

Tamara

Talking about inappropriate, her email was basically inappropriate. Why does she worry if he talked with Barker? My question is what is SHE hiding at this point from the Mayor. AND...seriously, the Mayor pins the success of a perceived failure at the airport on her? OMG... NO WONDER this Administration is in peril.

I met Dan several years ago at the Pensacola Police Academy and was really impressed with him. Don't know what Fountain has on the Mayor but she is the one needing firing

scary that this thin skinned, insecure lightweight is actually in a position of authority...she has nno business supervising anyone

What a perfect example of the "wrong person for the job." True leaders inspire their staff, build each other up, motivate, and push each other to be better. If you treat employees like they make a difference, they will! Clearly, Ms. "I am the real Mayor" does not have a clue as to what she is doing or how to be a leader. As Cicero is quoted as saying, "The higher we are placed, the more humbly we should walk." Ms. Fountain not only needs a slice of humble pie, she needs the entire pie!

WTF? “There is a strong need for an effective marketing program for our airport,” according to Tamara Fountain. So they appointed Bighair McLellan, ex-phone answerer at an air conditioning company, as the airport’s marketing manager? And why would we need Emagination to do real estate marketing when we already have CBRE getting big bucks to do the same thing? Apparently there is a movement on to push city money to Chip Henderson in the form of needless hourly fees. “Why” is anyone’s guess! The same thing occurred when projects were invented for the sole reason of pushing money to Jerry Pate.

We have a sitting mayor in office whose prior world revolved around “marketing” and real estate sales. Where perception is reality. A mayor who is in a constant state of running for office, and everything is about “fluff.” These are the people with whom he surrounds himself.

Dick Barker is/was the Interim City Administrator at this time back in March. Why wouldn't The director of the Airport go to him first? The Mayor cant be bothered with such mundane problems. He has pictures to pose for and $200 Jackson lunches to have. Fountain should enjoy her time while she can. She'll be on the fired/resigned/casualty of the Hayward administration soon enough.

Threats & intimidation don't motivate. Hopefully Dan will find another job in a better community soon. He's too good for Pensacola.

Come on Maren....Let all the cool kids play in peace already.

Exposing control issues on public record is amature hour. If you're going to be the one making executive decisions, taking a weekend to determine the fate of an employee while imagining them squirm with worry for two days over some control freak marketing contractor is destined to provoke karma of the most deserving kind.

I got an a mail from her once where she told me that she speaks with the voice of the Mayor. It was true. She did and she does. Hold the Mayor accountable for her actions.

Couldn't have stated it better!
